azure.png What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud Computing is the use of remote servers on the internet to store, manage and process data rather than a local server on your personal computer.

It is the delivery of on-demand computing resources over the internet on a pay-for-use basis.

Why Microsoft Azure?

Microsoft Azure is a growing collection of integrated cloud services which developers and IT professionals use to build, deploy and manage applications through a global network of data centers.

Essential Characteristics of Microsoft Azure

  1. On-demand self-service
  2. Broad network access
  3. Resource pooling
  4. Rapid elasticity
  5. Measured service
  6. High availability
  7. Agility
  8. Fault Tolerance
  9. Disaster Recovery

Types of Cloud

  1. Public Cloud This is a host provider, owned by a cloud services provider or a third-party provider.

  2. Private Cloud Owned and operated by the organization

  3. Hybrid Cloud Combines both public and private clouds, allowing you to run your applications.

Types of Cloud Service Models

  1. Infrastructure as a service (IAAS): This is an instant computing infrastructure, provisioned and managed over the internet. With Iaas the cloud vendor runs and manages servers, enabling you to create VM's that runs on the vendor's infrastructure.

  2. Platform as a service (PAAS) This is a complete development and deployment environment in the cloud, with resources that enable you to deliver everything from simple cloud-based apps to sophisticated, cloud enabled enterprise applications. You deploy your application into an application hosting environment provided by the cloud service vendor.

  3. Software as a service (SAAS): This allows users to connect to and use cloud-based apps over the internet. Saas is a software that is centrally hosted and managed for the end customer. Saas software is typically licensed monthly or annual subscriptions. example of Saas are: Microsoft office365, Dropbox, Wordpress.
